The talk gives a background to the concept of shipowners limiting their liability, discusses the Limitation of Liability in Maritime Claims Convention 1976, the application of the convention under Manx and international law together with the advantages it offers to ship and yacht owners registered in the Isle of Man.
Peter Taylor has been involved in the shipping industry for more than 30 years, the last seven years as a lawyer and prior to this as a marine engineer, initially as an engineer officer in the Merchant Navy and as a surveyor for Lloyd's Register and the Isle of Man Ship Register. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and has been a Chartered Engineer since 1995. During his time in the industry he gained considerable experience in surveying merchant ships, commercial yachts and fishing vessels and in drafting international and merchant shipping legislation. He has also served as an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve. At Simcocks Peter advises on most shipping and ship related matters and has a very detailed knowledge of seafaring employment matters under the relevant Merchant Shipping Acts, and can advise on all aspects of employment, contracts, incentives, workplace disputes, regulatory issues and proceedings.
This seminar will be held at the upper hall, Loch Promenade Church, Douglas, with coffee and registration from 12 noon for a 12.30 pm start. This session is free to staff of ACSP member firms and to associate members.
