Maria Bridson has dealt with a range of modern slavery and labour exploitation cases in the Isle of Man in the last 12 months. This work has revealed a dark underbelly of criminality and immigration abuse connected to the Island. She will discuss case studies and typographies to raise awareness of these issues and steps the Isle of Man public and business community can take to detect, disrupt and deter modern slavery.
Maria Bridson is an Isle of Man Advocate who is a well-respected expert in Isle of Man immigration law and policy. She has been qualified for over 22 years and was previously the Isle of Man Government Immigration Legal Officer. She has extensive experience in Isle of Man immigration and employment issues and assists many individuals and companies relocate to the Island.
Maria has worked with numerous migrants who have been subject to modern slavery and labour exploitation on the Island and liaised with various Government agencies on their behalf to regularise their immigration status and provide ongoing support. Maria has made a profound impact on many through her work with victims of human trafficking and modern slavery and has been awarded with this year’s Deemster Kerruish Endeavour Award for her commitment to justice and human rights.
