Derek Scott is Associate Partner, Family Office and Private Client - Head of Tax Investigations at KPMG.
Derek leads the Family Office and Private Client Tax Disputes and Investigations team. In particular he advises high net worth individuals, families and their companies who are under enquiry by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Derek specialises in advising clients undergoing complex investigations involving offshore structures and assets as well as those who are subject to a serious fraud investigation (Code of Practice 9) . Derek joined KPMG in 1997. Prior to this time he was an Inspector of Taxes in the Inland Revenue. Derek has been heavily involved advising clients who have used the various voluntary disclosure regimes available in the UK over the last several years.
Angela Savin is Partner, KPMG Law.
Angela is a tax disputes lawyer in the KPMG Law team. She has 20 years of experience of advising clients on tax law in both a contentious and transactional sphere across all industry sectors. She joined KPMG in January 2019 to focus on resolution of direct tax disputes, having been a tax partner at Norton Rose Fulbright LLP since 2010.
Prior to her move to KPMG (in the 2019 rankings), Angela was listed as a leading individual for corporate tax by the Legal 500, who commented that she is a "brilliant litigator".
She has extensive experience of resolving cross border tax disputes, with experience spanning diverted profits tax, permanent establishment and residence disputes (for corporates and HNWIs) and double tax treaty disputes (including advising on mutual agreement processes).
Angela advises on domestic direct tax disputes, and has particular strength in corporation tax, capital allowances, capital gains and Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) matters. She has significant experience in the application of "main purpose" tests and targeted anti-avoidance provisions. She has a strong track record of settling cases before litigation.
Industry sectors include financial services, insurance, asset leasing, intellectual property, real estate, infrastructure and funds.
Edward Renton is a Senior Manager, Tax Investigations at KPMG
Ed joined KPMG in 2018 after 10 years working for HMRC as a tax inspector.
At Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC), he worked for the fraud investigation service specializing in non-UK domiciled individuals and individual and family business' with offshore structures.
Ed is dedicated to helping clients resolve their complex tax matters with HMRC, from voluntary tax disclosures to the most serious civil investigations of tax fraud. He works with a number of offshore financial intermediaries delivering tax dispute resolutions solutions including trust level disclosures, company residence defense and bespoke matters.
