The ICIJ's largest-ever investigation into the offshore world exposed some of the financial secrets of politicians, billionaires, and the global elite. The investigation brought together documents coming from 14 different law firms and trust specialists that they claim facilitated the creation of 'offshore shell companies'.

To date, it's also the largest journalism collaboration ever. Spanning nearly two years, 600+ reporters from news outlets covering 117 countries shared their findings and collaborated on stories about wealthy businessmen, criminal kingpins, and political power brokers. For the global finance industry, the Pandora Papers put under the spotlight the importance of effective due diligence and PEP risk management.

This virtual event hosted by Helen Hatton, brings you into discussion with the investigators who exposed the Pandora Papers as well as those involved in the subsequent BBC Panorama documentary and other leading experts in this field.

Helen Hatton is widely recognized as the prime architect of the modern Jersey regulatory regime. She resigned as Deputy Director General of the Jersey Financial Services Commission in May 2009, having led the implementation of regulatory development in the island from its blacklisted state in 1999 to achieving one of the world's best IMF evaluation results, to establish Sator Regulatory Consulting, which merged with BDO Jersey in April 2016. Prior to taking up her roles in Jersey, Helen was Director of Enforcement with the Isle of Man Financial Supervision Commission from 1992-1999, introducing the first offshore 'all crimes' money laundering regime in 1997 and, notably, achieving the world's first 'freestanding' offshore Mareva injunction without a local cause of action in the case SIB-v-Lloyd Wright. This milestone case brought an effective end to banking secrecy in the Crown Dependencies.

Helen is a Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Banking Regulation and member of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers. She is a recognised international speaker on regulatory compliance topics and regularly publishes papers on regulatory matters.

Will Fitzgibbon is a senior ICIJ reporter. He is also ICIJ's Africa and Middle East partnership coordinator.

Will joined ICIJ in 2014 and coordinated the Fatal Extraction investigation that examined the impact of Australian mining companies in Africa. It remains one of the largest pan-African collaborations of journalists. Will has reported on ICIJ projects, including West Africa Leaks, Paradise Papers and Panama Papers. He coordinates ICIJ's partnerships with journalists in Africa and the Middle East.

Before coming to Washington, he worked at The Bureau of Investigative Journalism (TBIJ) in London where his work on politics, the finance industry and housing appeared in The Guardian and The Observer. He studied at the London School of Economics, Sciences-Po Paris and The Australian National University.

Scilla Alecci is an investigative reporter and video journalist for ICIJ. She is also partnership coordinator for Asia and Europe.

A native of Italy, before coming to the U.S., Scilla was based in Tokyo where she worked for Bloomberg News and other news organizations. In 2016 she was a member of the Japanese reporting team that took part in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Panama Papers investigation.

Her work has also been published by the New York Times, the Huffington Post, the Japanese magazine Shukan Asahi and others. Scilla holds master's degrees in East Asian studies and journalism, and has also published a book in Japanese about the Panama Papers and the new frontiers of investigative journalism. In addition to being a reporter with ICIJ, Scilla was invited to become an ICIJ member in 2017.
